Ultrawear®
When applied to steel components, Ultrawear increases wear resistance and material strength.
When applied to steel components, Ultrawear increases wear resistance and material strength.
Nanowear, applied to oil and gas industry components, reduces corrosion and increases wear resistance.
Ferrous and stainless steel mining equipment, components, installations, and production processes are vulnerable to corrosion, wear, spalling, galling, and fatigue due to harsh operating environments and exposure to corrosive chemicals. These conditions can lead to structural failure, lost productivity, costly repairs, and decreased customer satisfaction.
Woodworth Heat Treating introduces Nanowear® and Ultrawear®, a low-temperature thermal chemical treatment that alters the base material at the molecular level. This process provides a cost-effective solution to mitigate corrosion, wear, spalling, galling, and fatigue on both small and large components. To learn more about this process, contact us today.

Founded by the Woodworth family in Hazel Park, MI, as a small regional heat treatment facility, Woodworth Heat Treating has been serving Metro Detroit since 1965. Since then, we have expanded to serve major manufacturers and businesses of all sizes across North America as an engineered metallurgical solutions provider. Currently, we operate facilities in Flint, Homer, and Pontiac, MI, and Puebla, Mexico.
Over the years, Woodworth has successfully assisted OEMs and suppliers in solving warranty and durability concerns, reducing costs, and increasing throughput. We work with our customers to find solutions to their engineering, quality, cost, delivery, and logistics issues. Contact us to learn more about our capabilities or request a quote.
Currently, Woodworth heat treats over 2.2 million pounds of steel and other metals per day. Our atmosphere-controlled furnaces are located at our 385,000-square-foot facility in Pontiac, MI. To learn more about our capabilities, contact us to request a quote.
Yes. Woodworth is certified by IATF, CQI-9, and NSF for both industry and public health standards. Our most notable certification is our IATF 16949:2016 certification, which is the International Standard for Automotive Quality Management Systems.
IATF 16949:2016 emphasizes the development of a process-oriented quality management system providing for continual improvement, defect prevention, and the reduction of variation and waste in the supply chain. Contact us to learn more about our certifications.

The molecular layer changes, referred to as ‘Iron Epsilon (ε) for ferrous metals’ and ‘Upper Austenite’ for stainless steel, result in extreme surface hardness, which translates to enhanced mechanical properties and increased fatigue life. Unlike other surface treatments, these changes are not sacrificial.
Our Ultrawear & Nanowear process uses proprietary gas flows and furnace temperatures to create the right atmosphere, ensuring complete coverage and thorough delivery of the compound layer, even for the most complex part geometries. By forming an iron-nitride compound layer on the surface and creating a diffusion zone of carbon and nitrogen beneath, this process protects your part from abrasion and corrosion while improving its fatigue life and physical properties.
In many applications, the molecular layers are inert, which can effectively eliminate or reduce galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals. To learn more about our process, visit our website.
